About Samandal
Samandal is the Arabic word for salamander. Much like the dual habitats of amphibious creatures, Samandal Comics thrive between two worlds; image and text, entertainment and substance, the lowbrow and the raised brow, the experimental and the traditional.
Samandal is a volunteer-based non-profit organization dedicated to the advancement of the art of comics in Lebanon and the rest of the world. Based between Beirut and France, we have published 17 magazines, 6 comics anthologies, 5 graphic novels, a collection of 8 comic books for teenagers in Arabic, and hosted comics-related events since 2007.
Waraq is a non-profit organization based in Beirut, Lebanon. Founded in 2012, it is committed to the support of graphic art practices through education, research, production and publishing. Waraq's mission is designed based on a modular approach. By establishing a space, a well equipped print production facility, an educational program, a yearly print celebration event, a permanent print shop and hosting a research lab, Waraq aims to provide emerging and established designers and artists with the resources for the development of both their ideas and outputs rethinking design education, bridging communities and encouraging artistic and cultural discourse.Waraq is showing the third edition of “Tabaan” print market.
